{% update date="2026-08-09" %}

## PROTECT v1.2.60

#### Improvements

* **Updated file icons for restricted files**: Files that users do not have permission to access now display a black lock icon instead of the previously used red icon.
* **Added Do Not Encrypt protection mode**: A new protection mode, **Do Not Encrypt,** is added alongside MIP Only, PROTECT Only, and MIP + PROTECT. When users change the protection of an encrypted file and select a classification configured with the **Do Not Encrypt** protection mode, the file is automatically decrypted. This option is not available while adding the protection.
* **Improved classification-based access control:** Users can only perform protection actions on files classified at or below the maximum classification level permitted by their policy. Actions that the user does not have permission to perform are hidden from the right-click context menu. \
 For example, **Public** is lower than **Internal**, while **Confidential** is higher than **Internal**. If a user is permitted to remove protection from files classified as **Internal or lower**, they can remove protection from files classified as **Public** and **Internal**, but cannot remove protection from files classified as **Confidential**.
* PROTECT can now protect files containing UTF-16 Unicode characters in their filenames.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.guardware.com/product-updates/protect/copy-of-protect-release-notes.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
